OWLA started in the late 1980’s soon after ILCA started.  The group of lactation consultants that started at that time, hoped to have a place for Oregon and Southwest Washington lactation consultants and those working in the lactation field with to network and support each other as the as the profession was growing and changing.

Oregon Washington Lactation Association (OWLA) is an organization that provides Networking and Education opportunities for those who work with breastfeeding families.

Lactation Consultants, Doulas, Childbirth Educators, Dietitians, La Leche League Leaders, Nursing Mother Council members, Nurses, Physicians, Pediatric Dentists, WIC staff, Peer Counselors, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and anyone else who is interested in supporting breastfeeding families.

Meetings are held five times a year at rotating locations around the Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington areas. We provide an opportunity to network with other professionals, as well as an educational component at each meeting. Our board members also meet once every other month, in the alternating months, to plan for the educational meetings and additional outreach opportunities.
