Chelsea
Pope

Chelsea is an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), licensed in Oregon. Chelsea is originally from the east coast and moved to Portland in 2010 just before her first child was born. At that time, Chelsea was studying to be a registered dietician, driven by her passion for health and wellness. After becoming a mother herself, Chelsea soon realized her true calling was to offer lactation and infant feeding support to other parents during a time that can be both joyous and challenging.

Chelsea began gaining experience as a breastfeeding peer counselor with Nursing Mothers Counsel of Oregon and has been providing lactation support to new and growing families since 2013. Chelsea went on to earn a degree in human lactation from Birthingway College of Midwifery and has now been a practicing IBCLC for 8 years. Chelsea started Bliss Lactation in 2016 and has built a thriving practice  centered in promoting great outcomes based on compassionate, relationship-based care.

Kathy
Schmitt

Kathy is an original charter member of our organization (she began in the mid 1990s). She has been an IBCLC long enough to have taken the exam 3 times and has been happily retired since February of 2019. She has been serving as treasurer since she began. She is happy to provide continued support to OWLA’s mission of education and mentorship.

Sabrina Visser

Sabrina is an experienced RN and IBCLC who works as a Lactation Consultant in a level 3 NICU in Springfield, Oregon. On occasion, Sabrina sees breastfeeding families in their homes via her private lactation practice called Ready, Set, Latch! Set the Stage for Breastfeeding Success. She thrives on serving families with education, compassion, and loving support as they navigate their feeding journeys. Sabrina is also the President of the Alliance of Jewish Lactation Professionals, where she works to unite Jewish lactation professionals globally and amplify their collective voice through supportive community, culturally relevant education, and professional advocacy and alliances.

Sabrina loves to travel and spend time skiing, cycling, and taking long evening walks with her husband and son. Sabrina has served on the Oregon Washington Lactation Association’s board of directors since 2021.

Shelby
Sayer
Cameron

Shelby is a Public Health Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) for Linn County’s WIC program. Her experience is rooted at the peer-to-peer level in supporting breastfeeding families to prepare for and navigate issues throughout their breastfeeding journeys. Her goal is to help families minimize their ecological footprint and increase their health outcomes by supporting parents in nursing as long as they want. She is vice chair on the board for Linn Benton Lincoln’s Breastfeeding Coalition which she’s been a member of since 2022.

Shelby loves dancing in her spare time and spending weekends being a baseball mom as she keeps up with her three, breastfed kiddos. She enjoys spending time outside and connecting with the lactation community to learn from and support one another in finding ways to give back to the community.

Lisa
Gonzales

I am a registered nurse (RN) and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Prior to becoming a lactation consultant, I was a high risk labor & delivery and postpartum nurse for 9 years. After the birth of my first baby, I experienced breastfeeding difficulties, shifted my career focus to families with feeding issues, and became an IBCLC.

Through many classes and conferences, I have developed a specialty in oral restrictions, or tongue ties. Since 2020 I have presented for lactation students in the Lactation Education program at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health on how tongue tie impacts infant feeding. In 2023 I became a permanent part of the OHSU-PSU team where I co-teach aspiring IBCLCs in all aspects of lactation and infant feeding.

I support and advocate for all babies and parents with feeding and latching concerns, whether they are providing human milk or not. I aim to guide each family towards their unique feeding goals via a holistic approach, looking at the whole family, not just the latch.
